Technical Information
Baroque Alchemy is a highly flexible, self-contained duo and can adapt easily to a wide range of venues, from intimate chamber spaces to fully equipped theatres.
UK Concerts (Road Travel)
For the vast majority of UK engagements, Baroque Alchemy is fully self-sufficient.
We normally bring:
Full keyboard and MacBook-based sound system
Mixer and cabling
AKG wireless headset microphone (with receiver)
Portable PA system (Bose L1)
Our own sound system delivers excellent clarity and balance and is suitable for all small and medium-sized venues. If a venue has a high-quality in-house PA, we are happy to use it, provided a stage monitor is available. If there is any uncertainty, we generally prefer to use our own system, which ensures consistent sound quality and a smooth setup.
Lighting
In theatre venues with lighting facilities and an operator, we are very happy to liaise in advance and create a simple, effective lighting plan tailored to each programme. Even a small number of subtle lighting changes can greatly enhance the atmosphere of the performance.
That said, Baroque Alchemy regularly performs under standard stage lighting conditions — and even in daylight — and lighting is never essential to the success of the show.
We also own a pair of coloured LED backlights, which we may occasionally use or expand upon in future productions.
Concerts Involving Air Travel
For performances requiring air travel, we are unable to transport our keyboard or PA system. In these cases, the following equipment is required:
Keyboard
Full-size (88-key), fully weighted MIDI keyboard
Not semi-weighted
Example: M-Audio Hammer 88 or equivalent
Please note: this is a controller (“mother”) keyboard only — all sounds are generated from our MacBook, so no internal sounds are required.
Keyboard Stand
Adjustable X-stand
Lyndy Mayle performs standing
Sound System
High-quality PA system
Ideally a speaker positioned behind us, centre stage (as with a Bose tower system), allowing it to function as both main speaker and monitor
If using a front-facing PA, a separate stage monitor behind us is essential
Advance Planning
We are always happy to discuss technical details in advance and work closely with venues to ensure a smooth setup and the best possible sound for each space.
